Manual Therapy Course Descriptions

VISCERAL MANIPULATION FOR THE RMT: LEVEL ONE

This course addresses the theory of working with the internal organs and their fascial envelopes as developed by Jean Pierre Barral as well as our own experience of Fascial Release and it’s relationship to the viscera.  Tough, Hollow muscular organs such as the stomach/duodenum, urinary bladder and uterus are a primary focus of the workshop as well as the Liver being addressed and some treatment of the Ascending & Descending Colon time permitting.

This course is a pre-requisite for the Integrated Fascial Therapies Series (IFT) co-instructed by Heather Gittens & Natale Rao.

VISCERAL MANIPULATION FOR THE RMT: LEVEL TWO

As a follow up to the level one course, we delve further into the viscera with more involved techniques from level one organs (stomach, duodenum, urinary bladder, uterus), as well as introducing the Large Intestine in more depth, the Small Intestine & Root of the Mesentery.  Supporting Structures such as the Respiratory diaphragm & Peritoneum will be discussed as well as demonstrated.

Pre-Requisite:
VM for the RMT Level One or any other equivalent (Barral Institute)

BIODYNAMIC MYOFASCIAL MOBILIZATION

BIO = living things  &  DYNAMIC = potent; energetic; active

BMM – THE LUMBO-PELVIC REGION

The pelvis doesn’t have to be so complicated!!!  This workshop is designed to demystify the pelvis by treating it three dimensionally through the osseous structures (ilia, ischia, pubis), ligaments (sacrotuberous, inguinal, iliolumbar), myofascia and viscera (colon, bladder, uterus) related to each other and the body globally.

BMM – THE THORAX

Using techniques for the Osseous, Ligamentous, Muscular & Visceral components for the thorax, we explore the relationships between each and common complaints & dysfunction of the region and it’s relationship to the rest of the body.  Special attention is paid to the pleura of the esophagus, lungs & their suspensory ligaments, the rib cage & it’s articulations, the manubrio-sternum relationship, clavicles, Rib 1 & 2, the scalenes & subclavius muscles as well as the mediastinal tissue.

BMM – CERVICAL

As in the other integrative courses, we teach techniques for the Osseous, Ligamentous, Muscular & Visceral components of the cervical region. We explore the relationships between each and common complaints & dysfunction of the region and it’s relationship to the rest of the body.  Particular attention is paid to the Investing Fascia of the cervical spine, the Atlanto-Axial joint space, the Esophagus & the upper ribs.

ONE DAY WONDERS

**watch for extended versions in 2018!!!!

These courses are designed with the busy practitioner in mind.  Not having to book time off or have a full weekend away from your family is a great benefit to many of us!!!  Although one day is not enough time to get into great depth on any one subject, it DOES allow for the practitioner to either get a brief look/experience at an area/approach of interest OR for a great review for those who need a refresher in a particular topic.  There are no pre-requisites to these courses but please note that they are not intended to replace any full course & it is still recommended that one take the more full version either before or after to get a fuller appreciation of the topic at hand.

Digestion

Starting at the top, we work our way along the G.I. tract to explore & treat mobility of the involved structures.  Primary focus is on the esophagus, stomach, duodenum & colon.  Liver/GB is discussed in another course as it is too involved for a one day workshop.

Liver & GB

Thought to be one of the most important organs the Liver is warranted in having a full day devoted to it!  With over 500 functions it is a big organ with a big job!  A thorough examination of the anatomy of the Liver/GB will be taken as well as mobility & motility techniques.

Spinal Column

This course looks to combine fascial principles with Cranio-sacral therapies/approach.  We examine the curves of the spine, learn about transitional areas & their significance.  Techniques studies/practiced are for the whole spine from C1 to S5.

Female Pelvis – Female Issues

The most popular course by far!  Although the  female to male pelvis has great similarities and many analogous structures, the female pelvis is unique in it’s cyclic changes that have such a huge impact on the pelvic structures & stability, not to mention the many emotional and energetic forces at play on a daily basis.  The entire course revolves around the uterus but will also include the urinary bladder as well as some osseous & ligamentous techniques.

The Sphenoid Gateway

Being the keystone osseous structure of the cranium is no small feat.  The sphenoid has articulations with the entire calvarium but also has a large role in the face & TMJ as well as far reaching effects through it’s fascial component of the pituitary as well as into the digestive system via the buccopharyngeal fascia.  This one day course will take the participant all the way from basic motility and mobility techniques to subtle intentional techniques to engage those far reaching affects.
